MICHAEL SCOTT TOWNSEND
ABOUT MICHAEL

Born in Binghamton, New York, he has always had an interest in artwork.  Drawing whenever a pencil or crayon and a scrap of paper and eventually deciding art was what he wanted to continue doing for the rest of his life.

Michael’s artwork ranges from Plein Aire, Representational, and many forms of Abstract Expressionism.

His most recent paintings comprise of acrylic and urethanes poured and layered, blended with paint via wet into wet, and layer over layer techniques. The liquid mediums and paints interact by means of surface tension and inherent pigment properties culminating into alluring color blooms and fingers.

.

Many artists say their artwork is due to their creativity, and that art and science are separate. What connects today’s artist to those of yesterday are the forces of the universe. Surface Tension. Density. Gravity. Electromagnetism. In turn, the universe gave us the spiral. Contrasts light against dark. Blur against sharp. Where would we be without these key artistic features?
